Intradermal Immunization of Monkeys with One Set of Injections of Poliomyelitis Virus
نویسنده
چکیده
1. By means of a single large dose of poliomyelitis virus, distributed at a number of intradermal sites, active immunity has been produced in Macacus rhesus monkeys, as shown by skin neutralization and intracisternal tests. 2. In the small series (four animals) of monkeys so treated, neither abortive nor paralytic signs of experimental poliomyelitis appeared.

Intradermal versus Subcutaneous Immunization of Monkeys against Poliomyelitis
1. The introduction of considerable amounts of living, active poliomyelitis virus into the skin and subcutaneous tissue of monkeys protects the animals against intracerebral inoculations of similar virus material. 2. The degree of protection conferred by intradermal is greater than by subcutaneous injection. 3. During intradermal and subcutaneous inoculations, no local or general pathological s...
متن کاملExperiments with the Virus of Poliomyelitis
1. Efforts to adapt the virus of poliomyelitis to the rabbit organism and to produce poliomyelitis in rabbits by testicular injection and by brain injection after testicular passage produced no evidence that the virus could be adapted in this manner. Suggestive symptoms produced in very young rabbits were duplicated in non-specifically treated and in uninoculated controls. The admixture of a va...
متن کاملObservations on the Immunological Relation of Poliomyelitis to Louping Ill
The results of the work presented in the present paper show that louping ill and poliomyelitis immunologically are not closely related. Although relatively few experiments were performed, the data obtained were sufficiently decisive for our purposes. Certainly nothing was found to indicate that one might be able to immunize human beings against poliomyelitis by the use of louping ill virus. In ...
متن کاملImmunization with Mixtures of Poliomyelitis Virus and Aluminum Hydroxide
Preliminary experiments are presented which indicate that poliomyelitis virus can be inactivated by a certain preparation of aluminum hydroxide. This effect is seen at neutrality and at a pH of 5.5, but not at a pH of 8.8. Monkeys treated by repeated subcutaneous injections of poliomyelitis virus so inactivated evince immunity as shown by resistance to intranasal instillation and intracerebral ...
